This is a poem I wrote on 29th May, 2012 about my largely Maine Coon  cat Gilbert.  I consider him my furry feline friend, and he has brought much joy to my life.  I originally posted this on another blog.  I would appreciate any comments or feedback.

Ode to Gilbert – by Kate Whiteoak

Gilbert is a funny cat
He’s rather large, and slightly fat
He likes to slouch against the wall
As if he’s got no strength at all
But when the gas is lit at night
And the flame is burning bright
He curls up on his sheepskin rug
Contented and completely snug
And dreams of bees and butterflies
Float just behind his emerald eyes
