Here is another recipe from the Good Housekeeping Easy Stages Cook Book.  They are economical, easy and delicious especially the bacon pasties.

1 onion, skinned and chopped

1 potato, peeled and diced

1 tomato, skinned and chopped

8 oz. minced beef

Salt and pepper

8 oz. shortcrust pastry

A little milk to glaze

Mix the onion, potato, tomato and minced beef together.  Season well with salt and pepper.

Roll out the pastry and cut into 4 rounds.  A saucepan lid may be used as a cutter (courtesy book  instructions).

Divide the meat mixture between the pastry rounds.

Wet the edges of the pastry and draw together, with the join on top.  Flute the edges with the fingers.

Brush with milk.  Place on a baking tray and cook at the top of a hot oven 425 degrees Fahreinheit (281 degrees Celcius) for 15 minutes, or until the pastry begins to brown.

Reduce the heat to warm, 325 degrees Fahreinheit  (163 degrees Celcius)  and cook for a further 45-60 minutes.  Serve hot or cold.

Bacon pasties can be made in the same way – for the filling use 1 onion, chopped, 4 tomatoes, skinned and chopped, 6 oz. lean streaky bacon, rinded and chopped, and 1/2 level tsp. mixed herbs, mixed together.

Bon appetit!
